Business Japanese as an activator of communication among Japanese and Chinese staff

As a member of the Toyota Group, we produce automobile engines and sell them to group companies in Asia, particularly in China and Japan. For example, our products are fitted in vehicles such as the Camry and the RAV4 sold in China.
Since 2009, when we started group application of BJT, more than 80 of our employees have passed the test, which has become a very important tool for us. Currently, we refer to BJT as an index of Japanese proficiency of interpreters as well as engineers who are bound for training in Japan. Moreover, our personnel system includes a language allowance provided according to BJT score: those who have high command of Japanese working in an environment requiring Japanese language proficiency receive a language allowance.
We plan to further encourage our personnel to learn Japanese. In order to activate communication among our 1,300 or so employees, Chinese and Japanese, we find it very important to increase the number of Chinese staffers able to communicate in Japanese and to improve the Japanese language level of the entire company. We believe the BJT will make a good contribution to achieving this goal.
