Level guideline

Grade and Evaluation

The results are rated not by "pass/fail" criteria but by scores ranging from 0 to 800 and evaluated on a scale of six levels from J5 to J1+. The BJT is designed in such a way that an examinee gets about the same score each time he/she takes the exam so long as his/her proficiency is unchanged. This enables the examinee to track progress in small increments.

600～800 points

Able to communicate sufficiently in Japanese
in any business situation
530～599 points

Able to communicate appropriately in Japanese in
a wide range of business situations
420～529 points

Able to communicate appropriately in Japanese in
a limited range of business situstions
320～419 points

Able to achieve some degree of communication in
Japanese in a limited range of business situations
200～319 points

Able to achieve minimal degree of communication
in Japanese in a limited range of business situations
0～199 points

Virtually no ability to communicate in japanese in
business situations
